THE OWNERS : Dick & Shona Lancaster
We purchased our Naramata Bench vineyard in 2000, and established Black Widow Winery in 2006. We got to know every corner of the road between our home in Langley and the vineyard, making frequent weekend trips. Then, with the construction of our new home on the property in 2008, we left the big city behind permanently.
Having a background originally in Biology (BSc., MSc.) supplemented by an MBA in marketing & finance, and over 30 years amateur winemaking experience, the transition from professional accountant (CMA) to grape grower/winemaker was natural for me. My interest in wines at a relatively young age was sparked by my father Graham Lancaster who was Food Services Manager with Air Canada for many years.
Assisted by our 3 children, other family members, and friends, development of the property and business is an on-going project. Our daughter Shannon joined us full-time for the 2011 crush as assistant winemaker, helping in all aspects of the vineyard, B&B, & winery.
This is truly a boutique family business. We are proud to personally present our hand-crafted wines seasonally at our Sales & Tasting Room and Winery Patio. We look forward to your visit.
